good afternoon tlm! i'm sure you've all noticed this significant drop in activity. it seems to have happened all at once, and is no one individual's fault. however, i'm looking for some input on the situation! how do you think tlm should carry on? any suggestions or opinions are more than welcome. contests? plots? hiatus? lay it all out for us.

a fun way to get things going on other sites I've been on were sitewide events and stuff. we once did a tsunami--this required everyone to mandatorially play at least one of their characters reacting to said natural disaster as it happened (with the choice of playing others). the staff team divvied everyone up into threads that were about 3-4 people active, with a set date for each person to post by (or they'd end up being skipped) to make sure they kept the ball rolling. on top of that, before the disaster actually hit they had us sign up the characters we'd be threadding with, and used a randomizer to determine what sort of scenario a character would be facing. (example: 1-3 roll would mean that a character was trapped somewhere and would require help, a 4-5 roll would be someone stuck some place but with access to something that could help them, like something floating in the water etc. 6-7 was something like "this character has been badly injured and requires assistance from someone else").
that might take more time to hash out and work through things though that might be better for down the line.
otherwise there's always a battle or something! the borders have been really tense lately, and I think WC apprentices just traipsed off into SkyClan anyway. if there's a battle and leaders pulling clans together to be like "we'll team up with so-and-so temporarily to chase out these fleabitten SkyClanners" with others being like "no it's up to us to stand by SkyClan and help them stay" or something idk.
hiatus is dangerous especially for such a new site. it's best to just let the people who are being active be encouraged to post more! there's other things we could do! contests and stuff are always fun, though idk what kind of prizes we could offer out since we don't really have a money system. I've seen fun things like scavenger hunts done back in the day, and even writing prompt contests which are kind of exciting!
maybe a gathering? that could pull in some people! I know I'm excited to rp a gathering myself haha. or hey, we could do like they did in that one book (I forget which good lord uh) where the clans had like a track-and-field day with all this competition and stuff. friendly competition could be fun! we could always gauge the winners of contests via D-10 or D-20 rolls c:
advertising contests and such might help as well!
EDIT: prize suggestions, uh--maybe some "special" cats? idk they had some reincarnated cats and also random super powers so that's apparently canon-verse warrior cats so that's a thing to consider

yes! i love the idea of events and/or contests. tide is going to continue to be absent for a little while so i don't wanna start any events right now, without her, but i would love to host some contests! we need to brainstorm some ideas for sure!
i don't really wanna hiatus either, but it's kind of hard to run a struggling site missing one admin, but i think that if the handful of us who ARE active right now all just do our best to roleplay and chat then we can get through this little dry patch.
as for the ic plots we have brewing- those are both helping and hurting i think. they will continue to get stuck in places as long as we're missing so many people, so i'm not sure how to get the battles really moving since we're down two leaders (windclan AND skyclan actually) at the moment and so few people have time to devote right now unfortunately!
but yes! prizes! we'll just have to find out what people want! i'd be happy to give graphics or drawings as prizes, but otherwise i'm not totally sure. there are trivial fun things like a custom rank, or helping with a new skin, or something like that. otherwise, i think everyone will just have to give some input on things they'd like to win!

Nothing kills sites faster than inactive admin, so in the wake of Riptide's absence I would encourage the use of events and stuff like Crescendo mentioned. On my site we use prey/predator/mother nature and StarClan accounts to give a more 'real life' feeling. We put up clan-wide events or surprise users in their threads with a staff-played prey for them to hunt or predator to chase off; it doesn't have to be huge, but even some small things would help posting activity greatly.
For how many members TLM has posting should be up so your priority right now should be encouraging users to post. You can do this with the before mentioned "events", having a word prompt contest with prizes, or implementing something that rewards users for posting or doing things (whether it be a stat system where you get stats for finishing threads some sort of award system).
The premise for this site is great, but I do feel like it needs more to get users participating. The lack of activity is what has been keeping me away in all honesty because it tends to mean a site is on its way down :/

hush oh yeah! that's a good idea I second the mother nature / predator account anyway. FCOTF used to have that too back in the day and it made things really fun and interesting for mods too (fun to play a fox and it helps to start sitewide things and such).

i do think we were planning on making an event-type account from the beginning actually, but must have forgotten! thanks for the suggestion hush!
also as a small update, i do think we'll have a nice thunderclan x shadowclan skirmish coming up soon!

Heya, as far as activity goes, those of us that are still active might also be fumbling with which threads haven't been abandoned. I've run into this issue myself. I'm not sure which plots with which characters I still have, who is still here, etc.
I'll go through all of my characters and their threads, pick out the dead ones / ones with people that left, and make a list of them so that they can be archived. After that I'll open up some new ones.
My ultimate suggestion would be massive clean-up, those of us here can help out with it however we can, and after that, perhaps a 2 week IC time skip so we can all decide what happened with our characters, to ones that are no longer played, things like that. I understand we now have several high positions open (Windclan is missing their leader and deputy now), so we may want to do a mini activity check (just a "hey, post squibbleroodoobles if you're here and ready to rp!") and go from there.
Cres and Hush both have wonderful ideas, and you and Riptide have done very well as admins, but they are correct when they say that you must have a strong admin team for a site to survive. You may consider expanding on that team for those interested. Also--Advertisement. It'll be easy to get things going again since we still have a core group and lots of cats to play and plot with in every clan. It's just a matter of doing it.

I absolutely agree with having an Activity Check. That way you can clear the site of users who aren't logging in and all the dead or abandoned threads. A 'clean start' always makes me feel better lol.
You can also open up the high ranks that were deleted, too, which always tend to draw some new users in.

thanks so much for the help guys! i really appreciate the effort, ideas, and willpower! like i mentioned before, i'm not interested in starting a lot of bigger things (such as ic events) without riptide back yet, but i will certainly get an activity check and a clean up started.
also, i'd like to bring up again: what kinds of prizes would you guys be interested in for future contests/events/etc?

It's hard to really talk about things like prizes when there's no site shop system. At least, for me it is. There's not a whole lot of restrictions here like there are at other sites. If you wanted to, you could implement a shop, then prize talk would basically be like, "here, have a free character slot GJ in that contest" or lots of whatever we use as currency.
That's all I've got unless I see some examples of what we're looking for as far as prizes go because that's as far as my experience with them goes.
Waiting for Riptide for the start of larger things is a good call, it's not much longer before they're back anyways.

i love the idea of site-wide plots, especially those that throw members and characters together. i find when you can force characters (or whole clans) into situations where they have to mingle around new characters (that they might not otherwise have) it can really stir up activity and open up future plots. just a quick two cents!
