WHEN TOMORROW COMES, the sun-high hunt had been a successful one. as he trotted back into camp, his head was held high, tail standing up and waving like a banner behind him. the black tom gazed around the camp, his amber eyes wide and curious of all that surrounded him. most of the cats were either out on the patrols or laying in the camps clearing sharing tongues in the green-leaf sun. it was truly a beautiful day. starlingflight padded over to the fresh kill pile where he dropped his catches of thrush and vole, before picking up a plump mouse for himself. he flicked his tail, giving wasp-paw the single to pick up her own kill and go settle down. she had been turning into a fine hunter. his ears twitched as he looked around the clearing before finding a spot right in the sun and allowing himself to flop onto his side. with the mouse dangling from his jaws, he stretched out his long limbs, feeling the muscles tighten and then loosen as he removed the stiffness from the long trek through the forest. his pelt was rather gross, dead leaves and pine needles hanging around it, but he would have time for cleaning later, right now, his hunting had worked up an appetite. the tom ran his tongue over his prey, plucking out the bits of fur that were tough to chew through, and then finally digging in. he ate slowly, not bothering to rush his meal. the day was beautiful and there was no rush to curl back in the humid and cramped warriors den. with about half his mouse gone, he pushed it aside, vowing to finish it later. starlingflight sprawled back onto his side, stretching his black fur out to the sun and letting it soak into him. oh starclan, he loved green-leaf. words: 306 tag: silverflower notes: n/a LAIKA OF ADOXOGRAPHY

Slipping free from the medicine cat’s den, Silverflower’s ears were folded back with worry. It seemed that her daughter, Drizzlepaw, had eaten a bad piece of prey, and now she was quite ill. Nest-ridden under Brackenfang’s care, Silverflower’s daughter simply had to rest and keep drinking water from the soggy moss bundles she was given, and eventually the waves of nausea would work themselves out.
In the end, the situation was nowhere near as bad as it could had been, and Silverflower counted herself lucky that Drizzlepaw hadn’t eaten something completely rotten or spoiled.
Sighing, the light-furred queen’s head lowered until the top of it dipped below the peaks of her shoulder blades. She needed a task to work out her anxieties, and she needed a cat to confide her worries to. A quick sweep of her eyes across the camp revealed a target that seemed to need her attentive care just as much as she needed to give it—Starlingflight. His fur messy and filthy from his time spent hunting in the forests with Wasppaw, the tom didn’t seem to be paying any mind to his condition as he picked at a piece of prey in front of him.
With a soft merwl of protest, the she-cat slipped across Thunderclan’s camp until she padded up alongside the black furred tom cat. Of similar ages, she had known Starlingflight for quite some time, though it seemed that their interests had always been elsewhere from each other for one reason or another... at least, until Silverflower had found herself very much alone inside of the nursery, abandoned by her former mate more than ten moons prior. Since then, she'd begun to notice things she never had before, like how much she admired his drive to work and the way he mentored his apprentice. Hovering near one of his forelegs, Silverflower hunkered down and blinked slowly, ears folding back lazily.
”It must have been quite the hunting trip with Wasppaw,” she remarked, laughing lightly and stretching her neck out to sniff at a stray, crinkled leaf that had gotten itself trapped in his shadow fury, ”H-here, I can—if you just…” Silverflower’s quiet voice trailed off, and it wasn’t long before the she-cat was preparing to pick bits and burrs out of the warrior’s fur coat unless the tom cat had something to say about it.

WHEN TOMORROW COMES, with his eyes closed, the tom didn't notice the young queen coming up to him at first. when he heard her voice, he opened his eyes lazily, stretching his jaws in a massive yawn. that must have been quite the hunting trip with wasp-paw. she meowed and the black tom dipped his head. "she is turning into a fine young cat. she will be a warrior in only a couple more moons." his voice was a purr, releasing the approval and pride that he felt in the young cat. she was going to make a fine warrior when she was old enough, and he couldn't wait to see that she was going to accomplish. it was one of the reasons that he loved being a mentor. there was nothing that could compare to raising a young cat and then watching them provide for their clan. the black cat let out a purr as the young she cat rested beside, looking at his fur as though he had just rolled in the biggest pit of mouse dung and hadn't bothered to soak in the stream to clear himself of the odor. ”H-here, I can—if you just…” the tom stifled a purr of amusement, pulling himself up so that he was still laying down but more upright. he tucked his paws neatly under his belly and leaned toward the she cat. he turned his amber eyes to meet her softer ones and purred gently. "i would be honored." he let out a light laugh and then gave the she cats ear a soft lick. she was a kind cat, no one would deny that. and it would be a complete lie if he pretended that he didn't think she was beautiful or that he fancied her from the rest of the she cats in the clan. he allowed her to pick through his fur and clean up the mess that the forest had made, that he was to lazy to clean up for himself. whenever she did that, he would turn his head around and lick at her own fur. though, hers was much cleaner than his. his rough tongue gave gentle swipes and flattened any of her fur that had stuck up. "so, how are your kits doing?" he meowed between swipes of his tongue, curious to how they were doing now that they had been apprenticed and were out of the nursery. words: 403 tag: silverflower notes: awee, she is so cute omg. Sighing with relief at his accommodating posture, Silverflower inched her way closer until she sat alongside him with her medium length fur brushing against his any time she had to crane her neck to reach another messy spot in his coat. She doesn’t purr at first, but there’s a feathery hint to each tiny exhale that wafts out across Starlingflight’s shoulder—and then it all stops as a raspy tongue glides over the top of her ear.
Mnrrmrnrwl? Silverflower couldn’t help the startled squeak of a purr. Most of the time, whenever she groomed another clan mate, the experience was rather one-sided. A cat might allow her to vent her worries to an ear that would half-listen at best, but the unspoken agreement seemed to be that Silverflower’s grooming took priority. It felt strange to have someone think of her first and foremost—even if it was for a simple moment of thanks. Clearing her throat and smiling almost shyly, the petite queen returned to the task at paw until she had a very tiny pile of bits of the forest that had clung stubbornly to Starlingflight’s fur. Exactly what he had done out there to get himself in such a state, she wasn’t sure she would ever know. Each time the older tom’s tongue swipes through her own silky coat, Silverflower shuffles closer and relaxes further. This wasn’t so bad at all—and he didn’t even seem to be in a rush to go anywhere.
Her ears perk at the question regarding her kits, and as a smile pulls at the corners of her mouth, Silverflower goes so far as to draw in a deeper breath to prepare her most recent slew of updates—surely there was no prouder mother.
”Stonepaw’s been doing very well with battle training. He’s growing so fast, too, I’ll bet it won’t be long before he’s mistaken for a warrior at the gatherings,” her purrs quickly grew in volumes and intensity until they seemed to course through her entire frame, ”Ashpaw caught a bird out of the air not long ago, but something’s got his moods soured lately,” she paused in the middle of her grooming, staring down at the ground for a moment before she could rally herself again, ”I’m sure he’ll pull himself out of it, though… he doesn’t like it when I try to help anymore, so I try to give him his space… Drizzlepaw would be doing perfectly well, if she hadn’t eaten spoiled prey. She’s…” Silverflower spared a hesitant smile and a soft, quiet laugh, ”She’s not making the best patient for Brackenfang, I’m afraid.” Her forepaws stretched out until one rested on Starlingflight's closest shoulder, and very gently, her grey little pads began to knead his pelt. "I-- I'm sorry, I wasn't going on too much, was I...?" she worried.

WHEN TOMORROW COMES, it wasn't long at all before the petite queen had removed all of the alien pieces of things from the black toms pelt. now it shone almost a dull blue in the sunlight. it felt weird to be so clean, he wasn't used to allowing other cats even come so close to him. but, silverflower was a nice cat, and she was truly beautiful. the black warrior felt calm and secure when he was in her presence. it was a feeling he had only felt with applepelt before, but he had done his best to forget about the evil she cat - the one who ruined his and his brothers relationship. the black tom smiled and let out an amused purr as the she cat began to tell him all about her kits. he had no issues with it, he loved the sound of her voice and it was better than sitting by himself. by the time she was done speaking, she was close to him and her paws were gently massaging into his shoulders. "no, i love hearing about the youngest in the clan. especially the ones you gave to us." his purr was soft - a surprising sound from the black tom who was usually so strict and gruff about everything. his tongue found it's way between the she cats ears and he only pulled his head away to speak to her while meeting her beautiful blue eyes. his voice was a gentle purr, though it held as much amusement as contentment. "stonepaw looks strong, he is going to make a fine warrior for his clan." he told the gray queen, wrapping his tail protectively around her so that it rested on her flank. "as for ashpaw, don't let it worry you." he purred gently, stroking her flank with his tail tip. "as the apprentices grow up, they want to prove how strong they are. they want to be away from their parents only to show that they are independent and grown up. i promise you he still loves you and once he becomes a warrior he will wish he had spent more time with you." sparrowflight's tone was matter of fact, he knew that was how it worked as his relationship had been the same way with his own mother. the black tom once again ran his tongue over the silver queens fur. "as for drizzlepaw, she will be fine, we have all tasted our share of crow-food. as for brackenfang, the poor tom, he has had worse i'm sure." another thoughtful purr wracked his throat. but, then his face got more serious as he rested his head against the she cats shoulder. "when are you coming back to the warriors den?" he asked, rubbing his head against the back of her neck before pulling away. "leaf-fall will be here soon and i'm going to need a fluffy cat like yourself to keep me warm." his voice was gentle, but there was a hint of hidden affection in there that he had feared to show for any cat for so long. words: 512 tag: silverflower notes: ugh, they are so cute whyyy. <3 LAIKA OF ADOXOGRAPHY

With the evidence of her handiwork plain in the new gleam to her clan mates coat, Silverflower’s frayed worries began to slowly knit themselves back into place and settle down. Once she had finished grooming her companion, Silverflower glanced briefly at the tiny pile of debris before she swiped it away lazily with a forepaw, scattering across a few mouse lengths of dirt before them. ”You do?” she voiced, surprise evident in both her tone as well as the expression on her face. It was no secret what had happened with Silverflower’s litter—the tom that had sired them, Lynxclaw, had held no interest in fatherhood and quickly drifted from Silverflower once she came to be expecting. She had never raised much fuss when her former mate put his attentions elsewhere, but it was unknown how the event had truly affected the soft-natured she-cat.
”They can be quite the pawful, sometimes,” Silverflower said, her voice soft. Even still, the pride she felt for her kits was obvious, and the younger of the pair spared a sweeping glance around the camp’s clearing to see if she could spot one of her offspring. With no such luck, Silverflower’s sides deflated with a gentle sigh, and she let her chin dip comfortably down towards her chest. Feeling Starlingflight gift a lick between the ears, her eyes slid open once more, blinking slowly as the beginnings of a purr coiled inside of her throat. With praise being levied at her children, a feeling of warmth and ease settled inside of her. She knew that she had been a good mother to them, and that she had given Thunderclan a strong litter in a time when it had been needed.
It just didn’t stop her from worrying over their safety each time they slipped out of the main entrance to join another patrol.
”I know…” Silverflower nodded her head as her companion tried to reassure her about her more difficult son’s behavior. ”There’s just so much trouble that they could get into these days… There’s always been tension in the forest, but I never remember it being quite like this,” as his tail settled around her, it quelled the beginnings of the anxious shivers that had been threatening her. With the grooming that followed, she found she only had it in her to sigh with a hint of relief.
When her only daughter was referenced, a smile broke over the queen’s face, and a giggle that was almost mischievous left her.
”She, ah… she spit up the meat, right on top of the clean moss and cobwebs Brackenfang and I had gathered earlier,” though ultimately a set back and additional work for everyone involved, the messy incident had reminded her quite strongly of similar times in the nursery when one of her kits had drank far too much milk.
The soft weight of Starlingflight’s head set itself on top of her shoulders, and Silverflower turned her head so that most of it was facing his side, quiet purrs tumbling forth. She missed it—more and more as the days turned into weeks and her kits shot up in size, strength, and age. It was hard to let go of that time in the nursery. As though he had been reading her thoughts—though, truthfully, many cats in Thunderclan all held the same question—Starlingflight’s voice brought her back to the present.
”I…” slowly, her ears began to fold back. Whenwas she returning? It had been so long since she had hunted or gone patrolling, and so much had changed since then… ”I don’t know,” she confided in him. It was a simple, short statement, but the weight of her tone of voice made it quite clear that there was more to it than what appeared on a surface level. ”A fluff-“ her ears perked as he continued, and Silverflower tossed her head, shuffling in place and looking away shyly, ”Well maybe I like having my nest all to myself,” she teased him, dipping her chin quite low to try and hide her bashful smile, ”I’ve had the nursery all to myself for so long now.”

WHEN TOMORROW COMES, they can be a pawful sometimes... silverflower had meowed gently, turning her head to look for them before lowering her chin underneath the black tom's chest. starlingflight listened as the purr rose in her throat and he leaned to rest his own chin between her ears, letting out a deep, rumble like purr from his own throat. he listened politely as she confided in him about how things had gotten more dangerous in their times, rather than when she and himself had been kits, and he had to admit - though reluctantly - that the silver woman was right. not even a moon ago, a skyclan elder had found his way his way over their border, and whitepaw had tried to take his ears off. thankfully, coalgaze's calm and confident nature had soothed the skyclan leader and silenced the dauntless apprentice, and a skirmish was avoided. silverflower let out another gentle sigh and he pulled his chin off her head and rubbed his cheek against hers. "i'm sure with you keeping an eye on them, even the biggest badgers would be afraid." there was an amused purr in his voice and he turned his gaze to look behind the she cat and into the setting sun. he hadn't realized they had been sharing tongues for so long. already, the sun-high patrols had returned and the other cats were finishing up their meals and preparing for the dusk patrols that would be heading out soon. but, there was still time to spare and starlingflight was more than willing to spend it with the pretty queen. when she spoke up again, this time explaining to him how drizzlepaw had spat out her bad-prey all over the freshly shredded moss, and the black tom had to let out a snort of amusement. "i bet that was a fun mess to clean." he purred tauntingly, flicking his tail against the she cats ear playfully before resting back on her shoulders. i-i don't know... silverflower meowed slowly, and the tom stroked down her spine with his tail. he knew she had never truly been the kind of cat that enjoyed the patrols. there was a special gleam in her eyes when she spent time in the nursery and when she watched her kits, and he could understand. some cats were just born to be queens. he had seen it many times in his moons, not just in his clan, but stories that he caught in gatherings. there were just certain she cats that clung more to their nurturing nature and preferred to be mothers. and it was a well-respected role, to be a full time queen. he couldn't blame her, even though he did miss her sleeping beside him. starlingflight let out a chirp of amusement, whiskers twitching when the she cat stared to argue over her fluffy fur, but stopped herself with a taunting reply about how maybe she liked to have a nest all to herself. as though on a cue, the black tom pulled himself to his paws and uncurled himself from the queen. "i mean...if you insist.." he spoke, his voice slow and deep, false hurt ringing in his throat as he took slow steps away from the she cat. "i guess you can stay there...all by your lonesome..i'll just have to share my nest with coalgaze when it gets cold.." again, a few more steps before he swung his head back to look at silverflower, his eyes wide and holding the pain of a kitten who had been kicked. oh, teasing was so much fun, especially with her. words: 599 tag: silverflower notes: <3 LAIKA OF ADOXOGRAPHY

Though he had meant his comment to be reassuring, Silverflower could only force a tiny, unsure smile as his chin rose from her forehead so that the purring tom cat could rub his chin against hers. The force of his purring reminded her very much of the way she used to soothe her kits to sleep in the late hours of the night, curled around them and purring so strongly that the vibrations and gentle rumbles forced them to drift off to sleep. That was where she excelled—not against badgers. Her whiskers quivered almost imperceptibly. There was so much in the world that she couldn’t protect her young ones from, and she knew it. ”Thank you…” she murmured all the same, dipping her chin towards her chest and leaning more heavily against the black furred tom. She always felt better after sharing tongues with her clan mates and babbling about her worries, but the number of cats that truly invested themselves during the event was small. He meant well—and that alone went quite far with the silver-hued queen. The last rays of the sun were warming her flanks and spine when Starlingflight swiveled his head about to look around camp. It had grown darker out, but judging from the placement of the sun, it would be a few more hours yet before true darkness enveloped the woods Thunderclan called home.
”Oh, it was nightmarish,” Silverflower laughed in response to his comment about cleaning up after her daughter’s accident. She still had yet to gather new materials for Brackenfang—she felt so horribly about the time he had wasted.
When the older cat pushed himself to his paws and slunk away from her, Silverflower’s ears perked, and her whiskers began to strain forward curiously. ”Oh, you-“ she started, then laughed quietly and looked away with a smile. ”Be careful with him, he’s kicked in his sleep since he was a kit,” she informed Starlingflight, sparing him a playful glance. Still, as the tom kept walking away, Silverflower slipped after him, feathery tail swaying gently between her ankles. ”You’ll need a lot more bedding if you’re going to make it work…” she glanced over her shoulder at the positioning of the sun once more. Surely there were at least a couple of hours left… She wasn’t very fond of being outside of camp during the night, but if Starlingflight joined her, there’d be little reason to fear the wilds. She trusted him.
”I know you’d been hunting with Wasppaw today, but do you think you could come with me to get more moss?” her head tipped to the side, and Silverflower’s tail swished over to droop lazily over his back, ”I won’t even make you gather it if you’d like to just keep watch,” Silverflower offered.
