sunset was a perfect time to go looking for thorns, especially because most of the apprentices and their accompanying mentors had given in for the day and returned to camp. aside from the evening patrol that would be coming around eventually, fernpool had time to herself, to dream up some antics and the like. thorns were very versatile. they can cause a sore paw, an uncomfortable nest, or even serve as a distraction. while it wasn't often that the she-cat decided to use more harmful things in her pranks, foxstar had said something rather snarky and fernpool just had to get him back somehow. he knew better than to offend his baby sister. a smirk spread across the tabby and white warrior's face as her paws carried her over the soft mossy clearing to a thornbush. she peered beneath it to check for already fallen branches but alas, there were none. " looks like i'm just going to have to do this the hard way." fernpool muttered under her breath, carefully bringing her head out from under the bush. at shoulder height, a branch stuck out oddly, and the she-cat ducked down to nip at where it bent off from the rest of the bush. fernpool chewed quickly, gnawing at it until she could get a good grip with her mouth, and then the she-cat pulled. the tough, fresh wood broke after a sharp tug, and the she-cat stumbled over her own paws and nearly fell into the bush. a sudden noise behind her made her jump, and fernpool whipped about, clutching the thorn bush branch tightly in her mouth, her pale eyes wide as she was met by another cat. athena

WHEN TOMORROW COMES, the black warrior had been resting in the camp, his black pelt exposed to the evening sun of green-leaf, warming him from the outside in. he had been out training wasp-paw for the majority of the day, seeing how her training skills had been going before her previous mentor had moved to the elders den. she was a feisty apprentice, and he loved seeing her grow and improve. she would be a warrior in no time, he would promise it. with the evening coming on fast, he was restless. his eyes skimmed the camp until he caught the familiar pelt of fernpool. the whole clan knew of the leader's sister's mischievous ways. so when she turned out of the camp unnoticed, she waited a few moments before slipping off after her, curious of what she was up to this time. he gave her plenty of leeway, using his black pelt to his advantage and sticking to the shadows, slithering like a fox hunting prey. his paws were silent on the ground as he moved along, moons of working on his stealth had paid off real well. "looks like i'm just going to have to do this the hard way." the tabby had muttered and moved off again. stiffling a purr of amusement to prevent from being caught, he continued on his 'hunt.' the tom watched with a tilted head as the she cat made her way to a thorn bush, halting to chew off one of the branches before she stumbled back over her own paws, just balancing out before she flipped head over tail into the bush. this time, the tom didn't try to hide the rather loud purr of amusement that rippled deep in his throat. he stepped out of the shadows and cast his amber-eyed gaze on the tabby she cat as she turned to lock eyes with him. another small purr escaped his lips and his eyes sparkled with daring energy. "greetings, fernpool." he meowed suspiciously, head tilted to the side. words: 335 tag: fernpool notes: n/a LAIKA OF ADOXOGRAPHY

oh no. oh no, no, no. this was so embarrassing! fernpool's pelt stood on end, her face flushed, and in her shock the branch fell to her paws. a single thorn poked at her and the she-cat pulled her paw up quickly, taking half a step back and nearly going into the bush again. her soft-colored tongue lapped quickly at her paw, ensuring that it was safe and unharmed, before she gingerly replaced it on the ground.
her whiskers twitched as she returned her gaze to the obsidian tom before her. the she-cat dipped her head shyly. "um," fernpool began, biting her lip as she thought. "it uh," another pause. "isn't what it...looks like?" her tone was comical. usually she was better at lying than this. she coughed nervously and blinked rapidly at the tom. "heh." the she-cat chuckled, feeling increasingly foolish. "what...brings you....out?" great, now she was struggling with words.

WHEN TOMORROW COMES, starlingflight watched in amusement as the she cat stared at him, her fur fluffing out and he could almost feel the heat scorching from her fur as the realization that he had caught her sunk in. in her moment of shock, she dropped her branch of thorns, only to put her paw down on it and quickly lift it back up. not saying anything, the tom simply cocked his head to the side and stared. what exactly could he say that didn't make this situation more amusing for him and less awkward for her? fernpool quickly picked up her paw and lapped at it before placing it back to the ground and turning her attention to the black tom before her. she stumbled on her words, obviously still shaken up by the whole situation. it took her a moment, but she finally seemed to get out what she wanted to say, trying to hide what starlingflight had seen, but at the same time knowing it to be useless. once again, the toms head tilted to the side and he watched her struggle some more until finally stepping a bit closer. "don't worry. our little secret." he purred, playfully rolling his eyes at the she cat. instead of answering her next question, he began to pad toward her, circling around and and trying to place his tail on her flank and drag it around her body. suddenly, he jolted forward, slapping his paws down for balance and grabbing the thorn branch from under the she cat. with a purr of amusement, he suddenly busted into a full sprint, his fur flying along with the dirt his unsheathed claws drew up behind him. "foxstarrr!!" he yowled through his mouthful of plants, his voice high and kit-like. "guess what fernpool diddd!!" his purr of amusement was shaken by his rapid breaths as he pulled himself back to the camp as quickly as he could go. words: 322 tags: fernpool & foxstar (if you want to join in!) notes: ohh starling, you weirdo. damn that tom! the she-cat thought angrily to herself as he came sidling up to her before suddenly snatching up the branch and darting away. oh! she could just see herself skinning him alive with her bare claws! now fernpool was no longer embarrassed, and her face was flushed with the heat of anger. a scowl lining her maw, the small she-cat bounded after the black tom as quickly as she could, her fast mind racing to find a plausible reason for thorn branch collecting.
of all the things to get caught doing! the thunderclan warrior was cursing herself silently and being careful not to trip over her own paws again. why had starclan blessed her with such a mischievous mind paired with such klutzy paws? fernpool would never be certain, and it made her mad from time to time. but reasons. reasons, reasons, reasons... oh! just as starlingflight came into the view, the tabby and white she-cat let out a yowl. "you're only going to embarrass yourself, you know!" the she-cat called, running as fast as her little paws would carry her.
"those .. are to help .. reinforce .. the stone walls .. around camp!" fernpool managed out as she gasped for air. finally, relieved that she'd told him why she was gathering such things, the she-cat stopped suddenly, panting like mad trying to catch her breath from the long sprint. stupid starlingflight!
